It's not a standalone CAN driver or something like that. It just exposes the required step/dir/etc signals for another external driver board. Hm, maybe there is a misunderstanding about what the 1XD does? Just in case you don't know, the 1XD is NOT a stepper driver. That reduces the wires from the bottom up to the z-frame from 2x4 wires for the X/Ysteppers and 4 for the extruder (can plus power) to 4 wires. Measure the outer diameter of the gantry at the back. Slide the X beam to the rear of the gantry. The idea is to go with can and power to one stepper, than to the next and end at the extruder. Loosen the 4 bolts on the back of both A/B assemblies and re-tighten.
